Following the begin of the application of Regulation (EU) 2019/1381 on the transparency and sustainability of the EU risk assessment in the food chain from 27 March 2021, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) updated several administrative and scientific guidance documents.

With regard to nutrient sources, infant and follow-on formulae as well as foods for special medical purposes, EFSA updated the following guidances:

  • Guidance on safety evaluation of sources of nutrients and bioavailability of nutrient from the sources (Revision 1) (EFSA Journal 2021;19(19):6552
  • Scientific and technical guidance for the preparation and presentation of a dossier for evaluation of an infant and/or follow‐on formula manufactured from protein hydrolysates (Revision 1) (EFSA Journal 2021;19(19):6556)
  • Scientific and technical guidance on foods for special medical purposes in the context of Article 3 of Regulation (EU) No 609/2013 (EFSA Journal 2021;19(19):6544
