The EU Commission approves another Human Milk Oligosaccharide (HMO) as a novel food in June:
- 6′-Sialyllactose sodium salt, produced by a derived strains of Escherichia coli BL21(DE3)
As part of the authorization, only the applicant shall be authorized to place the food on the market for a period of five years from the date of entry into force of the Regulation, unless a subsequent applicant obtains authorization for the novel food by consent of the applicant or without using the proprietary scientific data referred to in Article 3.
The food shall be labelled with the indication that it is not intended to be consumed by
- Children under three years of age
- People who are already consuming other foods containing the ingredient in question on the same day
